The 14-year-old was part of an eight-strong Australian team which competed at the Gold Saddle Club in Guilin, China, last month against the host nation and New Zealand in a tri-nations pony club exchange.
Sharing a gelding with a New South Wales teammate, Mulcaster competed in 60cm and 80cm showjumping events, winning the former and finishing second in the latter on an all-Australian podium.
“I rode an Australian thoroughbred called Henry and he was about 15-hand,” Mulcaster said.
“He was a very good boy, he was a bit like my boy actually, he didn’t like other horses so much but he enjoyed people’s company.
“I was very happy with him, he jumped really well.
“I only had one pole down in the 80 and four incurred penalties in the 60, so I was very pleased with that.”
The Kings Meadows High student has since settled back into school life, but retains fond memories of one of China’s most picturesque destinations.
“It was really amazing, it was mind-blowing how busy it is over there and how different it is to Australia,” she said.
“The scenery is amazing in the south-west of China, the Li River and all these mountains popping out of the ground basically as you drove past.”
Mulcaster said she was grateful for the support of Leven Pony Club, who helped sponsor her 10-day trip.
Eight Tasmanian riders, including Northern trio Bethany Hirst, Matilda Scott and Shannon Kelly, have represented PCA in international competitions this year.
