The films are showing across two locations, the Star Theatre and University of Tasmania Australian Maritime College Auditorium.
Each screening is accompanied by traditional Latin American food.
The festival is being organised by City Park Radio Spanish Multicultural Program presenter Maria Elena Chagoya, who said it was a way for those who loved Latin America, whether they were migrants or not, to connect to the vibrant culture.
The festival’s timing is bittersweet for Ms Chagoya, who lost her father this week, but she said it was an appropriate way to honour the proud Mexican patriarch.
“For ten years my children have not been able to travel to Mexico, but through this my children are able to connect to his culture,” she said.
“This is a beautiful way to connect migrants with our countries, relatives and memories.”
The film screenings are all free, but there will also be a paid concert, from renowned Mexican harpist Victor Valdes accompanied by dancers, on Friday November 30 at the Australian Italian Club, 6.30pm, $20 children and concession and $30 full.
“He has a powerful compelling voice, magical harp-playing and a passion for storytelling that will take you on a journey through Mexico and Latin America,” Ms Chagoya said.
