She’s lived on the island for three-and-a-half years, coming from an education background. A former principal of West Launceston Primary and Punchbowl Primary, she believes many of the necessary qualities that make a good principal will assist her as she adjusts to a new leadership context in local government.
“I stood on the basis of leadership, and transparency, and participation in decision-making. They’re things that are supposed to happen these days, but don’t happen that much, and I truly believe in them,” she said.
Originally Ms Revie decided to run for councillor, and only decided to put her hand up for mayor at the suggestion of the community. She didn’t want to “count her chickens before they hatched,” but now that the results have been confirmed, she’s feeling positive about the next four years.
She is taking over the mayor’s role from Carol Cox, who did not stand for reelection after 11 years on council.
Ms Revie collected 65.59 per cent of the vote – but it’s a bittersweet night of celebration, as she is taking congratulations calls while recovering from a sinus infection.
Deputy mayor is incumbent David Williams.
