The dance company has long had a relationship with young Bhutanese dancers, and now they have reached out to the community’s elders to create an innovative original soundscape.
“We’ve been recording some of the traditional Bhutanese instruments that the older people play, and that’s going to be made into a contemporary sound score,” said TasDance general manager Alison Copley.
“We have an ARIA-award winning producer from Darwin, James Mangohig, doing that recording now.”
Yatra will be performed as part of Mona Foma in January, with a sneak preview at Mofo Sessions on Sunday, November 4 at Design Tasmania.
