Held over three days on November 16, 17 and 18, the Wonderful Water and Landscapes in Pastel workshop will be Mr Bathgate’s first time teaching in Tasmania.
Co-organiser Karen Armstrong said it would be a rare opportunity for Tasmanian artists to learn from a master.
“Rod Bathgate is acclaimed as Australia’s best pastel artist,” she said.
“It will be a workshop with a difference where you will experience the genius of Rod Bathgate’s remarkable, innovative way of teaching art.”
Mr Bathgate said the workshop would teach the use of ‘edge to edge’ application in soft pastels.
His signature approach is capturing the effects of refracted light below the surface of water.
“I have made it a focus to render images that are both a detailed record and an intimate rendering of places that I know and love,” he said.
“I hope to capture the essential light of a given location.
“Through pastels, I have discovered an amazingly quick and efficient medium to capture the most vital feel of a given location.”
The workshop costs $350 for Launceston Art Society members and $390 for non-members, and will be held at Evandale Gallery Studio, 35 Collins Street.
