Branxholm tourist accommodation Tin Dragon Trail Cottages have gone environmentally friendly, with the installation of a combination hydro, solar, and battery energy system.
Owners Christine Booth and Graham Cashion are also planning on holding an alternate energy workshop in September next year.
Mr Cashion said they had bought a hydro power system and three solar panel roofs which generates 24/7 power into a Tesla battery, with a combined power generation of 50,000 kilowatt hours per year.
“Any excess power that we produce goes straight into the grid,” he said. “We drawn on the battery during the night and during the day the solar and hydro tops up the battery, so we’re basically off the grid.”
The new energy system was installed through the Tasmanian Energy Efficiency Loan Scheme, or TEELS, which are interest-free loans provided by the state government for energy efficient home infrastructure.
