The last iteration for the year presented three courses of Afghan specialties, prepared by women and delivered to tables by young people from Launceston’s Afghan community.
The main course consisted of chicken along with sultana and carrot rice, with vegetable soup on the side and a creamy Afghan dessert made of flour rice, pistachio, milk, sugar, rose water and saffron.
Spokesperson Leila Nourouzi said the women had been regularly participating in the Community Kitchen since the beginning.
“Some Australians really like to enjoy this food, and we are very happy to cook it,” she said. “Every month when we come we are very busy.
“The food from our culture is very nice and yummy, and every time we come we like to cook something different.”
The kitchen has raised $8215 for community projects since its inception.
Nine migrant groups participated this year, with 1236 meals served to an average of 44 guests per week since 2016.
