During a traffic operation on the East Derwent Highway at Gagebrook in the state’s south, police caught 12 motorists travelling above the 40km/h speed limit in 40 minutes.
Sergeant Jason Klug said drivers needed to obey roadwork signage for the safety of road workers, themselves and others motorists on the road.
“This is a disappointing result and places road workers and other motorists at risk,” he said.
“Motorists need to ensure they follow speed limits when travelling through roadworks to avoid potential injuries and costly penalties.”
Information relating to unsafe driving can be provided to police by calling 131 444, or to Crime Stoppers anonymously on 1800 333 000 or online.
