The great outdoors will be brought indoors at the Silverdome this weekend as part of the annual Outdoor Boat and Caravan Show.
Now in its sixth year, nearly 50 exhibitors will be spread throughout the velodrome for the three-day extravaganza.
While the event has almost doubled in size since it first started, co-organiser Ken Gourlay said there was always room for more.
“We’re lucky at the Silverdome, because there is a new foyer which we can use, as well as an area out the back,” he said.
“The sought-after areas are obviously inside on the polished floor and we have been full there each year.
“Hopefully, it won’t ever get to the point where we are forced to turn people away.”
Highlights of this year’s show include an eight-metre 500 horsepower Stabicraft boat which has been placed at the centre of the venue.
The event also boasts its largest ever fleet of caravans, with a mix of interstate companies represented on the floor.
Mr Gourlay said the show had developed into much more than a retail display.
“There’s a lot of knowledge in the stands for people to tap into,” he said.
“We have some very good boat companies on board this year, including Tas Marine from Longford and Captain Marine from Launceston.
“The Tamar Yacht Club and the Port Dalrymple Yacht Club will also be displaying their sailing boats.”
The show will have wide-reaching benefits for yacht clubs in the area, with all proceeds from ticket sales going towards youth, junior and handicapped sailing programs.
More than 8000 people came through the gates last year, with Mr Gourlay expecting a similarly large turnout this time around.
“One of the main drawcards of this show is that people can order a boat, or a caravan and have it delivered by Christmas,” he said.
“They can come, see, buy and still have their annual holiday in it.”
- The Outdoor Caravan and Boat Show will be held at the Silverdome from September 7-9. It will run from 9am until 6pm each day. Tickets are $15 with entry free for children under 17 years of age.
