Going into the final round four per cent ahead of Wynyard, Ulverstone did enough to hold the Cats at bay with a 16.19 (115) to 4.5 (29) victory over Circular Head at Smithton Recreation Ground.
The Robins jumped out to a 20-point lead at quarter time and extended the margin out to 46 points at the long break.
The Giants had a burst of three goals in the third quarter to only allow the Robins to extend their lead to 52 points at the final change, but couldn’t maintain the pressure in the last quarter to allow the visitors to pile on five unanswered goals.
Liam and Travis Davies, Ashtyn Brett, Brandon Howard, Ryan Wing and Jack Dilger were the Robins best, while Harry Jaeger was the Giants best.
Wynyard were left to rue inaccuracy in front of goal in the 21.26 (152) to 5.6 (36) win over the Two Blues in Peter Templeton’s last game as coach.
The Cats kicked 4.8 to the Two Blues 2.2 in the first quarter to lead by 18 points at quarter time, then led by 47 points at half time.
The Cats grew the lead to 66 points at three-quarter time, despite kicking 3.8 for the term and wasn’t until the last quarter when the hosts straightened up and were able to blow the game out.
Hamish Shaw was the Cats’ best and was assisted by Gregg Sharman (eight goals), Jameson Forman and Liam Smith.
Sam Mitchell was the Two Blues’ best and was supported by Jack Templeton, David Scarffe, Brad Green and Jason Radford.
At West Park, the Burnie Dockers secured the minor premiership with a 21.19 (145) to 7.6 (48) victory over East Devonport.
After leading by just 18 points at quarter time, the Dockers pounded the Swans with eight goals to two in the second quarter to extend the lead to 53 points at the major break.
The Swans’ defence tightened in the third quarter to only allow the Dockers to extend their lead out to 63 points with a quarter to go, but the host regained their form in the last quarter.
Kade Munday was the Dockers best and Luke Russell, Rudy Barrett, Nick Walters, Harry Walters (seven goals) and Brodie Knight were named in the best players.
Rodney Coghlan was the Swans best, while Sam Greaves and Nick Milbourne kicked three goals each.
Latrobe remained in fourth place on the ladder and will meet Circular Head in the elimination final, despite defeating Devonport 22.19 (151) to 6.4 (40) at Latrobe Recreation Ground.
The Demons led by 37 points at half time and broke away from the Magpies in the second half behind 12 goals to two.
Braden Van Buuren was the Demons’ best and was their leading goal scorer with four goals.
Charlie Castles was the Magpies best and Phillip Crowden and Mitchell Dell kick two goals each.
