The Demons had expected to finish in third spot at the completion of last weekend’s round 18 matches, however, the awarding of percentage for the season’s two forfeited matches saw reigning premier Old Scotch bumped up into third spot.
The alterations mean the Thistles will meet Evandale in Saturday’s double-chance fixture, while Lilydale will play a do-or-die clash with Old Launcestonians.
The extra percentage was calculated by teams’ season averages and awarded to Old Scotch and St Pats for their default wins over Bridport in round nine and Tamar Cats in round seven, respectively.
Lilydale reserves coach Joel Champ took to social media to express disappointment with the outcome, but said his side would still press hard to make the final week.
NTFA president Paul Reynolds said the timing of the calculations was unavoidable.
“The AFL directive is that we cannot assess the percentage variations until the roster season is completed,” Reynolds said.
“In line with that requirement that has been done, in accordance with the AFL guidelines.”
Should any of the weekend’s finals end in a draw, two five-minute extra time periods will be played until a winner is determined.
