An air and sea rescue operation was mounted after the alarm was raised about 7am on Sunday when a boat capsized at the Narrows in Marion Bay.
Two men were rescued by a recreational fisherman who was nearby.
“The males were treated at the Royal Hobart Hospital for mild hypothermia before being released,” a police spokesman said.
“A search and rescue operation, utilising the Rotar-lift helicopter and two marine vessels was established to locate a missing third adult male.
“The missing male was located deceased a short time later in Marion Bay.”
Police said it was believed that all three men were wearing life jackets.
“The next of kin has been notified and at the request of family no personal details will be released at this time to media or the public,” the spokesman said.
He said a recovery effort for the boat was underway at Marion Bay.
A report is being prepared for the coroner.
