On Thursday, grade 10 students at St Patrick’s College were given the unique opportunity to not only see an ASLAV in person, but get up close and personal by going inside.
The ASLAV is an eight-wheeled armoured fighting vehicle which has been modified to deal with the harsh conditions in Australia.
Students had the chance to ask questions to current serving members of the Australian Defence Force about their roles.
Teacher David Hayward said the students were given the opportunity to see the ASLAV and meet the Defence Force personnel as part of their vocational Defence Force Cadets Certificate I Skillset program.
Many said they were interested in joining the Defence Force after finishing school.
“This is the only school in the country that offers the grade 10 program,” Mr Hayward said.
He said St Patrick’s also offers a Certificate I in Defence Force Cadets, and is one of only two schools in Australia to offer the course.
This is the first year the two programs had been on offer.
- Australian Defence Force will be at Agfest at sites 315 and M39.
