The fire broke out at the Goderich Street home about 3am Sunday.
Tasmania Fire Service issued a smoke alert at 3.30am.
Launceston incident controller Mark Cianter said the house was fully engulfed when emergency services arrived at the scene.
“It took three crews to extinguish the blaze,” he said.
“We were able to bring it under control really quickly.
“Fortunately no one was in the house at the time of the fire.
“It is now in the hands of the CIB, but this was definitely a deliberately lit fire.”
Mr Cianter said it was understood the house had been vacant for some time and was being renovated.
