The airline names its regional fleet after regional towns as a way to encourage travellers to discover more of Australia. The new name was revealed in the same week it was announced the 2018 Qantas Tourism Awards would be held in Launceston.
“Qantas is committed to continuing to drive tourism to Tasmania and promoting all the state has to offer. We have a partnership with Tourism Tasmania, and are a major partner of Mona,” a Qantas spokesperson said.
Qantas is in the middle of repainting its regional fleet ahead of the airline’s 100th birthday in 2020.
Each aircraft takes around 12 days to repaint with 16 people per aircraft and a total of 1,100 labour hours.
The process involves stripping the existing paint, leaving the aircraft with a silver shell ready to be refreshed with a white base colour, followed by the iconic red tail, wording, shading, and silver bands.
It is the fifth plane in the fleet to be repainted.
