The proposal was made during an inquiry into federal electoral distribution changes held in Launceston on Monday.
Cr Perkins said it was beneficial to have part of the Meander Valley in Bass and part in Lyons.
“We end up with two politicians interested in what we are doing at council and I am more than happy to spend the time they want with any politician,” he said,
“If you have got extra representation then it is a thumbs up.”
Cr Perkins said the community had worked “quite well” within two electorates.
“Our Lyons part of the municipality tends to be more rural and Bass is more urban and they have different needs,” he said. “There are different issues that you can take up with different representatives.”
The final proposal for electoral changes will be released in November.
