Outgoing president Leanne Wright confirmed Mr Polglase as the president for a term of two years, to start on February 1 next year.
Ms Wright had endorsed opposing candidate and New Norfolk High School principal Malcolm Elliott before the election.
Mr Polglase said he would step down as principal at the end of the school year after 10 years.
``I've informed everyone there but in 13 days' time it will be a sentimental time to say goodbye to them,'' Mr Polglase said.
``I've had a lovely career in education and I'm a great supporter of public education, and I look forward to progressing the issues that concern us.''
When asked about not being endorsed by Ms Wright, he said he was moving on.
``People make their own decisions as to what they do at a particular time,'' Mr Polglase said.
``I'm just moving on and there will be no looking back at what has happened.
``I'm just looking forward to getting on with the job.''
Ms Wright said she thought the election would go either way and wished Mr Polglase well in his new role.
She would not comment when asked if she thought he would do a good job.
Australian Electoral Commission Hobart returning officer Michael Horwood said it had been a close result.
``It was a very close election, so because of that the results were double and triple-checked because of the ramifications for those who had also nominated for other positions,'' Mr Horwood said.
