Detective Inspector Burk will head-up Launceston’s Criminal Investigation Branch with fellow detective inspector John King.
She joins the North’s police ranks after 30 years in the force in the state’s South, most recently in Hobart.
“I feel very privileged,” Detective Inspector Burk said.
“I’m up for the challenge.”
Detective Inspector Burk will oversee family violence, victim crimes and forensics, among other areas.
Her counterpart Detective Inspector King will have a focus on property crime and drug offences.
The Northern district will now have six inspectors overseeing day-to-day operations.
Northern Commander Brett Smith said he hoped Detective Inspector Burk’s promotion would encourage other women to join the force.
Fellow officer Debbie Williams has also moved to the North-West Coast to become the region’s first female uniform inspector.
