The competition is available to students in grades 9-12 from across Tasmania.
Budding photographers are offered the opportunity to flaunt their photographic skills and creativity.
The competition is based on a photographic scavenger hunt.
Students are given a list of 20 photographic subjects, ranging from something that moves to a broad theme such as retro.
They then capture an image for each subject, and submit the resulting 20 images online.
Prizes will be awarded in grade 9-10 and grade 11-12 divisions.
The winner and runner-up of each division will receive a DSLR camera.
Launceston Church Grammar School head of visual arts, Paul Snell, said competition entries were consistently of an ‘‘overwhelming’’ standard.
‘‘The diversity in photographic subjects offers the potential for creativity and artistic interpretation,’’ Mr Snell said.
‘‘Students who have entered in previous years have gone on to pursue their interests through tertiary studies, including undertaking fine arts degrees, both with UTAS and the University of Melbourne.’’
‘‘Tasmania has a vibrant and diverse creative industry and we see this competition helps nurture and inspire young people to pursue their creative ambitions.’’
An exhibition for all finalists will be held at Poimena Gallery from July 22 to August 12.
