It will be a huge day of footy with Evandale hosting the undefeated NTFA division 2 ladder-leader St Pats in a top-of-the-table clash in what should be one of the best games of the year.
The senior match kicks off at 2.10pm with the teams having the added incentive of playing for the Worksafe Match of the Month Cup. ‘‘We would like to thank Worksafe Tasmania and AFL Tasmania for the opportunity to showcase the day,’’ Evandale operations manager Michael Rigby said.
‘‘The action starts with Auskick from 9 to 10.30am, followed by the reserves game from 10.30am to 12.15pm and the All-Tasmanian female All-stars match from 12.15pm.
‘‘This game will be a great spectacle as 44 of the state’s best female players will battle it out for supremacy in two teams, the Robins and the Cats, as a platform for possible selection to the AFL female academy and the senior female state side.’’
Female football has been the fastest-growing sector of the game in recent years, with the AFL wanting a national competition within five years.
The Tasmanian Football Council will work with the Tasmanian Women’s League clubs, Tasmanian State League development officers and community leagues to develop all-girls Auskick centres, community junior and youth girls’ competitions and to complete the pathway with the AFL Female Football Academy.
