Hawks speedster Bradley Hill is still suffering the side effects from a mild concussion in last week's thriller against Essendon and did not make the flight to Launceston on Saturday.
The undefeated Dogs will be without former captain Matthew Boyd due to general soreness and he was replaced in the side by Koby Stevens.
A question mark also hangs over young Whitten Oval gun Marcus Bontempelli, who is struggling with calf soreness.
In wet conditions at Hawthorn's training session on Saturday, assistant coach Brendon Bolton said a replacement for Hill would be decided upon overnight.
"We don't want to take risks with concussions," Bolton said.
"As of today [Saturday] we've assessed and [Hill's] not quite right and unfortunately he'll miss this week."
The injuries are a blow to both sides as all three players are integral to their club's fortunes.
Hawthorn are a dominate force in Launceston, having won all 11 matches at Aurora Stadium since round 5, 2012.
