The Saints finished runners-up to premiers Old Scotch in 2014, and while happy with their overall effort Lowe said the club wanted to build on that performance and again challenge for the flag with the ultimate aim of winning it.
‘‘We started our pre-season a bit later and did one night a week before Christmas because I wanted to give the boys a bit more of a mental break,’’ Lowe said.
‘‘Hoping that they would come back after Christmas with a bit more desire and commitment and a bit fresher.’’
The Saints have lost six players from last year’s senior grand final team, including retirees Dayle O’Neill and Brad Pearton.
‘‘We’ve probably recruited another 10 to 12 players to our list and among those are North Launceston colts best and fairest Brendan Taylor, Ted Davis from Fingal, Simon Lindsay from Deloraine and Clinton Morosini subject to clearances being finalised,’’ Lowe said.
‘‘We picked a couple up from Hillwood as well and three or four from Tamar, and we have three returning players in Liam Reynolds and Mitch and Nathan Jones, and a couple of others as well.’’
Lowe said the Saints’ coaching panel would include former club senior coach Lenny Towns as his bench coach, with Scott Bennett taking over from Matthew Gamble as reserves coach.
