Director of Public Prosecutions Tim Ellis, SC, was found to have caused the death of Natalia Pearn, 27, in March last year by negligent driving.
He has not acted as director since the collision.
Yesterday law firm E. R. Henry Wherrett & Benjamin lodged on behalf of Ellis a notice to review the verdict, delivered by magistrate Chris Webster on June 25, in the Supreme Court in Hobart.
The notice to review must demonstrate that Mr Webster either made a mistake in law or fact or had no jurisdiction to make his order.
Mr Webster found Ellis was driving negligently when he collided with Miss Pearn's hatchback on the wrong side of the Midland Highway.
The West Launceston hairdresser died instantly.
Ellis is due to be sentenced on July 22 in the Hobart Magistrates Court.
The notice to review will be mentioned in Hobart's Supreme Court on September 1.
