A tent in Launceston's Brisbane Street Mall made for a temporary home base for Salvation Army volunteers yesterday during its biggest annual funding drive.
Launceston Salvation Army member Joe Duffy said money raised would be used to benefit disadvantaged Australians.
"There would be about 1500 people that come through our Launceston floor, or that we make contact with, each week," Mr Duffy said.
"We provide emergency assistance to help with food, electricity and provide general crisis support."
More than $1000 was donated to Salvation Army representatives on Friday, with crews trying to double the figure with yesterday's efforts.
"Our goal nationally is to raise $10 million," Mr Duffy said.
"All the money gets pooled together and distributed through our headquarters as it's needed or required."
He said the charity's reputation through 130 years of activity in Launceston, and involvement in major emergency response services, saw many people willing to donate.
