The 33-year-old, 268-game AFL veteran played one match for the Northern Bombers last season, kicking seven goals against South Launceston.
This season the club has contracted him to play a minimum of five matches with the option of extending that to finals if the Bombers make it.
Tarrant will play his first match on Good Friday against Launceston followed by the Anzac Day clash against Clarence, Lauderdale on May 24, Burnie on June 19 and the Western Storm on August 22.
He trained with North last week and was guest speaker at the club's jumper presentation and season launch.
Tarrant enjoyed his one-off game last season and said he was keen to come back to the Northern Bombers.
``Five games is a nice number and it allows you to get a better understanding of how the team plays and get to know a few of the new faces and hopefully I can fit in OK,'' Tarrant said.
``The football here in Tassie in general is a great standard and is clean, skilful football with people playing in the right manner.
``They're a great bunch of guys here at North Launceston and have some fantastic facilities and the opportunity to play at a first-class stadium here was a pretty good fit for me.''
Tarrant's TSL stint could be the only football he plays this season as the former defender is busy with business commitments in the health and fitness industry and about to release his own organic protein powder called Inta Organics.
Tarrant said he hoped to help the Bombers win some games and progress to a successful finals campaign.
``I love football, my body is still good and I have always loved playing. Hopefully I can pass on some experience and professionalism to a good bunch of young kids and teach them what it takes to play at the highest level.''
He will be an important part of the club's development and leadership program, working not only with senior players but extending his influence to the under-18 and development league and under-15 and under-16 players.
