The state's three elected Greens members today decided on the appointment at their first party room meeting since last month's state election.
Outgoing leader Nick McKim said Mr Booth had informed him yesterday morning that he was willing to take on the leadership role.
``And on that basis, I have not nominated to contest the leadership of the Tasmanian Greens,'' he said.
``A contested leadership ballot would simply not be in the best interests of the party that I love so I made the decision and informed Kim and Cassy of the decision last week.
``If there had been no other nominations for leader, I would have taken it on because I do believe it is in the best interests of political parties to have a leader.''
He said he intended to stay the full parliamentary term with the Greens and recontest his seat for Franklin in the next election.
Mr Booth, who questioned last week whether a three-member Greens team needed a leader, said he would ensure the party focused more on rural and regional Tasmania.
He said his first priority would be to discuss adequate party resourcing with Premier Will Hodgman.
He said ministerial portfolio spokesperson positions within the party would be discussed later today.
