Police and Emergency Management Minister David O'Byrne today announced about 25 police recruits will start a course in July as part of a $32 million package from the state government.
They will bolster the ranks of future Tasmanian police, with 55 recruits already in training.
Mr O'Byrne also announced a $645,000 investment in implementing recommendations from the recent bushfire inquiry.
“Fifty four new radios, charging units and spare batteries, in addition to new electronic variable message signs will improve cross-service communications and traffic management during bushfire emergencies,'' he said.
“Most importantly, all officers will be allocated new personal protection equipment backpacks and three new purpose built trailers will efficiently transport emergency equipment around the state."
