Short Haul Transport Pty Ltd, trading as Road Runners, went into voluntary administration on Wednesday.
Administrator Paul Cook, of Hobart insolvency firm Paul Cook & Associates, said the company would cease trading at 5pm unless a potential purchase offer was resolved before then.
If it is not sold, it will go into liquidation.
But Mr Cook said that even if the company was sold, a ``considerable number'' of its 100 employees would still be made redundant.
The transport and warehousing firm has depots in Launceston, Devonport and Hobart.
Staff said they had not received their superannuation entitlements since July, and had not been guaranteed any payment beyond their salary up to next Wednesday.
They said casual staff had already been laid off.
Staff at the Hobart depot were told on Wednesday afternoon the gates would close for good at 5pm today.
Mr Cook said the company had seen the week out to finish the delivery of stock that was already in transit.
Mr Cook said employees would be paid out under the federal government's Fair Entitlements Guarantee.
He said the company had planned to make some staff redundant before going into administration, but could not afford the redundancy payments.
A meeting of up to 80 creditors will be held in Hobart on March 4.
Road Runners management was directing all calls to the administrators yesterday.
The Transport Workers Union said it was not acting for Road Runners employees.
