Launceston artist Bella Perkett spent 25 hours completing the first in a series of street artworks.
The York Street traffic box now reflects the business of nearby store Recycled Relix.
The store's owner Cathy Hancox tracked down Perkett after she posted a message on Facebook saying she wanted to do street art.
"I think it would really benefit Launceston if we had more street art, and because if you look around Launceston it's a bit dead and it's not inviting," Perkett said
Launceston Mayor Albert van Zetten is keen to see "adopt-a-box" occur across the city.
"By next Christmas hopefully they'll all be done," he said.
"It gets rid of the graffiti and it would be a good talking point for the city," he said.
Alderman van Zetten said he would like to get school and university art students involved in the project.
