An alleged murderer could not be extricated from his cell and so was not present in court regarding murder and attempted murder charge proceedings.
Kerry Lee Whiting, 44 of Launceston, was due to make his first appearance in the Launceston Magistrates Court on the matters, which appeared alongside a charge of aggravated robbery.
Magistrate Sharon Cure told the court she had been informed he "would not leave his cell".
Ms Cure said she had been told it would "take a great deal of force" for him to have been brought into court.
"There are safety considerations for staff as well as accused people," she said.
Mr Whiting's court date came 38 hours after he was taken into custody at a home in Waverley.
He was represented by defence counsel Olivia Jenkins. The police prosecutor was Rob Shepherd.
Mr Whiting was arrested after a near-week-long manhunt following the death of a man at Ravenswood. During the same incident a woman was also left with critical injuries.
It was a week before she was released from the Launceston General Hospital in a stable condition.
Police will allege a man was stabbed to death and a woman critically injured by a person who entered a Prossers Forest Road home in the early hours of Thursday morning last week.
Mr Whiting's mother sat at the back of the courtroom as Ms Cure informed the court her son could not be extricated from him cell.
Outside of the court, asked about the charges, she said, "I don't know anything, seriously".
Ms Cure adjourned the matter and remanded Mr Whiting to reappear on December 6.
