Tasmania Fire Service were called to the blaze about 9.30pm Saturday, arriving to find the end of the viewing platform and surrounding shrubs completely alight.
A TFS spokesman said it took two fire crews from Launceston about half an hour to bring the fire under control.
Fire investigators have deemed the blaze deliberate, with damages estimated at $10,000.
It is understood the lookout is owned by the City of Launceston council.
It is located on the fitness trail, off the West Tamar Highway, at Trevallyn.
The TFS spokesman said the council had been notified of the fire, with the matter now handed over to Tasmania Police.
The area has been taped off for safety reasons.
