A Kayena man has been charged with multiple firearms offences following an arrest in the Launceston CBD in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Police earlier responded to reports of an alleged family violence incident, which lead them to Launceston.
The man was arrested at the rear of a licensed premises on York Street before 2am, allegedly in possession of a firearm which was wrapped up and had not been used, according to Inspector Michael Johnston.

The man was charged with possession of ammunition, handling a firearm while under the influence of alcohol or other drugs, common assault and breach of a family violence order.
He will appear in the Launceston Magistrates' Court on Sunday evening.
