There was no shortage of Northern winners at the Tasmanian Schools Championships held at Stonehenge, midway between Oatlands and Triabunna.

More than 90 athletes sped through the wooded farmland with Australian Christian College, Launceston, winning the primary school trophy and Launceston Church Grammar claiming the the girls' high school trophy while the boys' trophy went to Hutchins School.
Event director Julian Roscoe said there were more winners than losers and although many classes were won by experienced orienteers, plenty of relative newcomers showed their rapid improvement.
Course-setter and junior world orienteering championship representative Joe Dickinson was impressed with the depth in the junior girls' ranks while the size of the field delighted event controller Jon McComb.
Northern winners were:
Bryce Russell LCGS (Boys Junior B2); Euan Best Esk Valley (Boys 14A); Riley Kerr Prospect High (Boys 16 A); Hervee Sullivan-Arkless LCGS (Girls Junior B); Ivy Rapley LCGS (Girls 10A); Ella Fassett LCGS (Girls 13A); Ilanna McDougall LCGS (Girls 15A); Sophie Best Esk Valley (Girls 16A); Isabel Brown LGGS (Girls Senior B); Oskar Bucirde Esk Valley (Men Long).
A couple of week earlier, more than 120 students from 12 schools contested the Northern schools championship.
Large contingents from Prospect High, Launceston Church Grammar and Australian Christian College were joined by a new group from Rosebery High for the senior races. Additionally, there were representatives from Reese High, Scotch Oakburn College, Forth, East Launceston, West Launceston, Youngtown, Riverside and Trevallyn primary schools.
Launceston Church Grammar were clear winners for the senior trophy, followed by Prospect High and the Australian Christian College.
The junior division was comfortably won by Youngtown Primary, from the Australian Christian College and East Launceston.
