Welcome to our very first publication of Holiday at Home!
Eagle-eyed readers of The Sunday Examiner might recognise the name from a feature we started during COVID, as a guide for Tasmanians keen to explore their home while borders remained closed.
The guide also sought to support the tourism industry who had suffered a considerable blow. Tasmania has always attracted travellers from across the globe and with international travel no longer on the cards, tourism operators faced a very bleak winter.
2020 was a time when crowds were few and far between, and when locals really helped the tourism industry get back on its feet. We had government support with the 'Make Yourself at Home' travel voucher, and going on holidays gave you a warm, fuzzy feeling that we were doing something good to support local.
With borders opening and closing at a moment's notice, hotels, restaurants and a wealth of tourism operators are still relying on locals to continue to explore their home state, lending support where they can.
After the tumultuous year that was 2020, it's no wonder that we're doing holidays differently now.
Within these pages we have highlighted some of our favourite trips around the state, from remote West Coast campsites to the best stops on your East Coast drive.
Tasmania has also welcomed a return of some much-loved events for 2021, we have previews of BOFA, Targa and Dover Seafest.
