Sherridan Keisha Weavell, 20, of Ravenswood, was sentenced to a drug treatment order in November 2019 for dishonesty offences with a six-month custodial component to apply if she did not fulfil the terms of the order.
IN OTHER NEWS:
Police prosecutor Hamish Woodgate told the court that Weavell used a false name when she caught a taxi to an address in Lambert Street, Ravenswood in January 2020.
After paying $10 she told the driver to drive further down the street and promised to get the remaining $12.70 from inside a nearby house.
However, she got out and stuck her finger up to the driver and fled despite the driver following her and demanding the money. In July, Weavell breached bail by failing to appear in the court for a review of her order. She pleaded guilty to both charges.
Defence counsel Fran McCracken said Weavell was still struggling with drug addiction at the time of the fare evade and had no recollection of it. The court heard Weavell had a baby on January 1 this year and was arrested on January 8 and had been in custody since.
Ms McCracken said there was no opposition to the cancellation of the order because her engagement had been sporadic over six months.
Magistrate Sharon Cure activated the sentence attached to the DTO and added a week's jail for making off without payment and breaching bail and backdated the sentence to January 8.
