Reigning State League premiers after downing Glenorchy in October's grand final, the Blues have been left without a competition after a lack of clubs forced the TSLW to disband in December.

With North Launceston pulling out and Kingborough returning to the SFLW, Launceston, Glenorchy and Clarence will all be forced back to regional leagues with the Blues set to become the 12th club in the NTFAW as soon as this month.

Blues president Sandra Boland will meet with NTFA representatives to finalise the move and discuss what percentage of last year's premiership team can remain at the Blues in 2021 to ensure a fair competition.

"We've unofficially joined the NTFA and we're requesting a meeting to sort out the finer details," Boland said.

"I don't want to have to say no to anybody who's already playing with us - I don't think that that's right.

"I understand the level of their comp and that they don't want our entire team, but there's a natural transition of people moving due to age and demographic anyway so we just need to be in the same place about what that number is that's left.

"There's a few more details still to work out but that's where we'll be going."

The Blues are also on the hunt for a new coach after Alex Wadley, who succeeded Ange Dickson in November, stepped aside to help out with the men's State League program.

Boland said the playing group was beginning to get used to the idea of not playing State League this season.

"I think everybody has come a long way - they're more accepting of it," Boland said.

"It's alright to say we want to be in the TSLW, because that's what we'd like, but there is no TSLW so I'm promising that they'll have a game somewhere."
