Instead, their grand final lead-up has been one of excitement and elation to be back, after what has been a bizarre season of state footy.
Blues coach Ange Dickson said the girls are up, about and ready to go against Glenorchy this weekend.
"It's been a long year for us and we had no expectations to be here again this year and be in the big game again," she said.
Glenorchy have had the Blues' number the entire season, winning comfortably in both match-ups.
But Launceston dominated the rest of the competition, finishing as minor premiers.
In other news:
Other than its Glenorchy losses, the Blues outscored opponents 303-43 in the regular season.
Dickson said the team had made a lot of structure changes and learnt from both their losses to their grand final adversary.
"They've kind of caught us off-guard with their speed, we've been a little too reactive rather than proactive," she said.
"We've let them get to the footy first and tried to keep up with them that way and it's not worked for us.
"Now, we're going to be hunting that ball down and we'll make it our focus to be first on the ball and win the football."
Season changes to the team's back-line were also keys to the team's evolution across the season.
"We've rectified that [back-line] and put some speed into our it with Kelsie Hill and Abbie Hoiberg-Cox," Dickson said.
While revenge against Clarence would have been sweet, Dickson said beating Glenorchy would demonstrate the team's standing as the best in the competition.
"It's as plain and simple as that: we want to play the best and be the best and we're looking forward to the contest," she said.
As a coach, Dickson said she was more about the individual group and players reaching their goals rather than just winning the flag.
"To have two girls drafted last year and another this year - for me that's enough satisfaction," Dickson said.
"I'm not going to shy away - I want to win the flag this weekend and to be a female coach in an environment that's full of men.
"It would be fantastic to be able to hold that cup at the end of the year and have the group get what they deserve."
The match kicks off at 12.15pm at UTAS Stadium.
