Brighton trainer-driver Adrian Duggan was reported to have suffered a broken leg and Beauty Point trainer-driver Conor Crook sustained unspecified injuries.
Veteran Launceston reinsman John Walters was able to walk away from the three-horse pile-up and was cleared to continue driving.
Two additional ambulances were called to the track and medical staff attended to Crook and Duggan for an extended period before they were taken to the LGH.
Crook's drive Canbe Doc was the first to fall, crashing heavily, bringing down Walters on Rockandahardplace who got caught up in the tangle.
Duggan, who was following on Major Davvin, was unable to avoid the fallen horses and crashed over the top.
Major Davvin suffered a cut that required stitches and the other two horses sustained only minor scratches.
The race was re-run 70 minutes later with the three horses late scratchings.
Later in the night, Illegal Immigrant made relatively light work of a 20m handicap to comfortably win the Discretionary Handicap at surprisingly good odds.
The Troy Hillier-trained and driven seven-year-old came with a well-timed run to beat Dapper Dana and Jeans Mattjesty.
It was his 19th career win and his 16th since Hillier bought him in New Zealand in late 2017.
Illegal Immigrant was $5.50 into $4.60 with tab.com.au and paid $5.60.
THINGS BACK TO NORMAL AT ELWICK
It took Scott Brunton a couple of meetings to get back into full swing but his home-track dominance was evident again at Elwick on Sunday.
The leading trainer led in four winners - First Accused, Shampz Again, Fragment and Kuroset - at the second Hobart meeting since the shutdown.
At the last meeting before the shutdown he won five races.
David Pires shared three of Sunday's wins, with Georgie Catania chipping in to score on debutant First Accused in the 2YO Handicap landing connections $20,000 in Tasbred bonuses to go with the $12,500 winner's cheque.
The Turffontein gelding was bred by Mandy Gunn at Waterhouse and his big syndicate of owners includes many of Brunton's regular clients.
Fragment was having his first start for Brunton in the Open Handicap and got back to something like his best form to record his first win since October 2018.
The seven-year-old was transferred to Brunton before the shutdown but never got the chance to race.
He was then transferred to Paddy Payne in Victoria where he performed reasonably well at three starts before returning home.
Siggy Carr and Bulent Muhcu both rode doubles and Brendon McCoull would have joined them had he not been forced to call in sick.
Yassy Nishitani replaced McCoull on Vivid Dreamer who produced a big finish to win the Class 1 and Muhcu picked up the ride on Sh'bourne Renegade who finished too strongly for hot favourite Videmanette in the Class 1 Plate.
DRAW MAY BE SEVENTH HEAVEN
Class greyhound Hello Rhonda has the right draw to help her bring up win No. 23 in the Free For All at Mowbray on Monday night.
The Robin Grubb-trained bitch is rising four years of age but is still racing well and should get every chance from box 7 over 278m.
She has raced only four times over the short course for three wins, with two of those coming from the same draw.
Her only defeat over the distance was last November when she began slowly from box 5 and was never out of trouble while finishing fifth to Mecca Senor.
Anthony Bullock will provide four of Hello Rhonda's rivals including I'm A Dominator who is also three from four over the distance.
Wynburn Gold returns from a winning trip to Victoria to contest the Grade 5.
While Tasmanian racing was shutdown, she had four starts at Sandown under the care of Brendan Pursell and was successful there in late May.
She is now back with Ben Englund at Wynyard for a race that could produce a trifecta for North West greyhounds.
Penguin trainer Butch Derevell looks to have two of the main dangers in Rachael and Inner Circle.
