Golf Tasmania is urging players to tee off at their local course once more following the successful introduction of strict safety measures.

Golf Tasmania's Simon Weston said a raft of implementations including social distancing, wearing gloves and eliminating contact with communal equipment such as flags, holes and bunker rakes would allow players to continue reaping the physical and mental benefits of the sport during the coronavirus lockdown.

"Golf Australia's focus during the COVID-19 pandemic will always be the wellbeing of the broader community," Weston said.
"Golf Australia's initial position was for clubs to close.
"But over the past five weeks, we have been encouraged to see golf played safely in five states and one territory.
"We are now encouraging all clubs to re-open - under strict and specific safety protocols."
Golf courses in Victoria and the Northern Territory remain closed.
