Scott Thomas Riley, 36, pleaded guilty in the Launceston Magistrates Court to evading police and a series of firearm charges.
Police prosecutor Katrina Woodgate told Magistrate Simon Brown that Riley was issued a family violence order in November 2019 which prohibited him from possessing a firearm or ammunition.
Riley, who had previously evaded police under aggravated circumstances, also pleaded guilty to driving while disqualified.
On March 28, police sought to intercept Riley's car for a random breath test when he accelerated away and dodged through the streets of Ravenswood.
"He pulled up near units in Faraday Street and when police pulled up he decamped on foot where he was also seen by a witness," Senior Constable Woodgate said.
"He scaled a fence and was located in a garden shed in Lambert Street."
IN OTHER NEWS:
A search of the vehicle located 10, 12-gauge shotgun shells, an over-and-under loaded shotgun which had both the barrel and stock shortened, the serial number ground off and three .22 calibre rounds.
Riley made admissions in a police interview, Senior Constable Woodgate said.
"He evaded police because he did not want to go back to jail," she told Mr Brown.
"He had smoked cannabis in Ravenswood."
The court heard that the shotgun was one of a $20,000 theft from a home in Longford in early March.
Riley told police he had bought the shotgun for $200 and conceded that it was likely to have been stolen.
He told police he kept the shotgun loaded with the safety lock on.
Defence counsel Jessica Stewart made an application for Riley to be assessed for a drug treatment order because prison had not provided the necessary support to break the cycle.
He pleaded guilty to:
- 1 count of Evade Police (Aggravated Circumstances)
- 1 count of Drive whilst disqualified (Road Safety (Alcohol & Drugs) Act 1970).
- 1 count of Trespass - (Premises).
- 1 count of Possession of stolen firearms
- 1 count of Possess shortened firearm.
- 1 count of Possess loaded firearm in a vehicle in a public place..
Mr Brown remanded Riley in custody for sentence on May 18 at 2.15pm.
