The council agreed to join the partnership in 2019 as part of the Sustainability Strategy and to help achieve the climate change targets it endorsed in August 2019.
As part of joining the partnership, the membership councils agreed to select five pledges within the first six months. The actions are chosen from a number of options provided by the CPP.

The council will discuss its recommended pledges at its meeting on Thursday. The council pledges to:
- power the council's operations by renewable energy and set targets to increase the level of renewable power for the council's operations over time.
- encourages sustainable transport use such as public transport, walking and cycling through the council's transport planning and design.
- supports cycling through provision of adequate cycle lanes, bike parking and end-of-ride facilities.
- lobby state and federal governments to increase sustainable transport options.
- achieves 100 per cent divestment from fossil fuel-aligned investments at the earliest possible date
Once endorsed by council, the five pledge items will be submitted to the CPP and reported against annually and be incorporated into the council's draft Carbon Management Action Plan.
