Tasmania Police were called to a residence in Erythos Grove at St Helens on Wednesday evening.
About 8.40pm a 60-year-old man received a laceration after an altercation with another man.
Ambulance Tasmania provided treatment at the scene before he was taken to St Helens District Hospital, and then transferred to the LGH for further treatment.

The man is stable and his injuries are non-life threatening.
A 61-year-old Dodges Ferry man was taken into custody at the scene.
Investigations have concluded, with charges pending, Tasmania Police say.
The man was bailed to appear in the Hobart Magistrates Court on February 11.
