A police car was rammed and capsicum spray was deployed during an incident in Invermay on Sunday afternoon.
A 27-year-old Mowbray man was arrested after evading police in a green Mitsubish triton on Forster Street just before 3pm.
The police officer inside the rammed car avoided injury, but the car was extensively damaged.
Police are continuing investigations into alleged offences including motor vehicle stealing and other traffic offences.
UPDATE 4.27pm:
One person has been taken into custody after an evade incident at Invermay.
A Tasmania Police spokesman said a driver had tried to evade police.
It is understood the driver had committed a traffic offence.

Numerous police cars are on the scene of an incident near Invermay McDonald's.
It is understood a Tasmania Police vehicle was damaged.
A witness said the street was "full of cop cars", with more than 10 police officers at the scene on Forster Street at the intersection with the East Tamar Highway. The witness said police appeared to have a person in custody.
Traffic was disrupted for a short time, but is understood to be flowing.
A Tasmania Police spokesman confirmed there had been a traffic offence in the area, but did not have any other details yet.
