The 26-year-old began the four-discipline event with wins in the scratch, tempo and elimination races, giving her a 14-point buffer on her nearest rival, New Zealand's Michaela Drummond heading into the points race.

Cure extended her lead by winning three of the first six sprints in the 20km race to build an unassailable margin and eventually finished second across the line to end the night with 186 points, 49 clear of Drummond.

The win was Cure's second Oceania omnium title after her first success in 2016.

"I wasn't sure how I was going to go here as I've been a bit up and down lately," the team pursuit world champion told Cycling Australia.

"But I set myself up early by getting some wins and I had a good buffer going into that points race.

"I don't mind a points race, it's always tough but I just went in there and just treated it like any other points race."

There was also a Tasmanian connection in the men's omnium as Launceston Wheel winner and Christmas Carnivals regular Sam Welsford finished well clear of Kiwi trio Campbell Stewart, Regan Gough and Corbin Strong.

"I enjoy racing against the New Zealanders," Welsford said.

"It is always good and fair racing between us and it is really enjoyable.

"I was happy with my form so early in the season."

Other results saw Launceston's former junior world champion Lauren Perry finish seventh in the elite women's scratch race following a bronze medal in the team pursuit on the opening night.

Fellow Northerner Josh Duffy, who also won gold on the opening night, narrowly missed the top 10 in the elite men's scratch race and omnium with 11^th and 14^th place finishes respectively.

North-Wester Dalton Stretton also picked up his second medal of the titles, winning a bronze medal in the junior men's 25km madison final.

Teamed up with Queensland's Alastair Mackellar in the final, the pair took the lead after the opening sprint before picking up another three points in the fifth sprint and 10 points for winning the eighth and ninth sprints.

Stretton, who won gold on the opening night in the team pursuit final, finished in 11^th place in the junior men's 500m with Lachlan Spurr one spot ahead.

He also recorded a 12^th place finish in the junior men's individual 3000m.
