The city was set to shiver through a minimum of minus 2 degrees on Friday morning, with the same to follow on Saturday, according to the Bureau of Meteorology forecast.
Sunday and Monday are expected to drop a further degree to minus 4, before things heat up again - into positive territory, at least - into the week.
"This would be quite unusual," the bureau said via its Tasmanian Twitter account on Tuesday.

The city had not seen five consecutive days with minimum temperature forecasts of minus 2 degrees or lower since 2015, it noted.
But whether its an iced-over windscreen on the way to work or the crunch of grass underfoot, many in the state are snapping pictures of the chilling scenes.
