The State Flippers' Squad (formerly the talent identification squad) is part of the Swimming Australia pathway national flippers' program.
It aims to prepare identified athletes to successfully transition to the peak of Australian swimming, the Dolphins' Swim Team.
The program begins with the State Flippers, progressing to National Flippers, the National Youth Program, the Youth Transition Program and the Australian Dolphins' Swim Team.
Swimming Tasmania has named 24 swimmers in its development squads for 2019-20, in recognition of their outstanding performances over the past year.
Breaststroker Morgen Hawkins, 21, of South Esk, backstroke record-breaker Emily Mitchell, 13, of Launceston Aquatic and former Launceston-based distance specialist Jardene Ralph, 20, who now trains with Sandy Bay, are in the squad's top tier.
Also included are Jasmine Irani, 13, Georgia Woods, 15, and Jessica Homan, 13, all of Launceston Aquatic; Millie McGregor, 13, of Burnie; and Hugh Dolle, 14, of South Esk.
The members of the 2019-20 development squads are:
Flippers' Squad: Max Giuliani, Jet Jankiewicz and Noah Kamprad (all Hobart Aquatic); Morgen Hawkins (South Esk); Emily Mitchell (LAC); and Jardene Ralph and Matilda Smith (Sandy Bay).
Gold Squad: Olivia Nichols (Hobart).
Silver Squad: Samuel Askey-Doran and Beccy Macdonald (both HC Swim Club); James Clues (Hobart), Jasmine Irani and Georgia Woods (both LAC); and Millie McGregor (Burnie).
Bronze Squad: Mollie Bailey, Jonty Clues, Jack Evans and Ella May (Hobart); Kye Direen, Jessalyn Potter and Tessa Yu (HC); Hugh Dolle (South Esk); Jessica Homan (LAC); and Isabel Kirwan (Sandy Bay).
