Lions and tigers and devils! Oh my!
Nestled in the foothills of the Tamar Valley, a wild adventure awaits.
With the largest collection of native and exotic wildlife in Tasmania, Tasmania Zoo is the perfect full-filled day out this winter.
From the world's largest rodent to the world's smallest monkey, there's something for everyone.
Since opening its doors in 2003, the zoo has grown to feature a number of endemic Tasmanian animals, as well as native and exotic species recognised as critically endangered.
Tasmania Zoo offers the second largest collection of primates in any private zoo in Australia and is the only zoo in the country to exhibit the endangered Black Crested Macaque.
Manager Rochelle Penney said the zoo is dedicated to continuous contribution to wildlife conservation and to the education of the community.
"We believe in creating a balance between wildlife conservation, education and entertainment in a natural environment," she said.
"This gives all visitors an up-close and hands-on wildlife experience for a greater understanding of why conservation is so important for our future.
"As a member of the Zoo and Aquarium Association, we work closely with all Australasian zoos, and are involved in various species management programs."
Along with an amazing array of animals, the zoo offers close-up animal encounters, a Jurassic Swamp walk and children's birthday parties.
Tasmania Zoo is the only fully-accredited zoo in the state and is non-government funded.
The ongoing care of animals, grounds and infrastructure is funded through admission, the gift shop and the Meerkat Munchies Cafe.
Tasmania Zoo is located around 15 minutes from Launceston CBD at 1166 Ecclestone Road, Riverside.
