The North's regional women's football competition looks set to enjoy a breakthrough year as a record eight teams compete for the NTFAW flag.
After two years of the AFL Tasmania-run TWL North, the competition has come under the NTFA's wing and this year sees the addition of Old Scotch, Old Launcestonians and Bridgenorth.
Rocherlea, who competed in both TWL North seasons, was unable to field a team.
Here's what the coaches had to say ahead of this weekend's first round.

COACH: Bobby Beams
CAPTAINS: Caitlin Mulligan, Maddie Howe
LAST SEASON: N/A
COACH SAYS: It's all exciting for the club, we've had a great response and the girls are super keen.
About half have football experience, some in the regional senior comp and others coming out of the NTJFA.
The girls that haven't played have come from different sporting backgrounds and they've shown a lot in the time we've been training and practice matches.
They've come a long way in the four months we've trained and we're really looking forward to Saturday.
COACH: Dwayne Beeton
CAPTAINS: Courtney Grice, Courtney Sharman
INS: Ten including Khama Beeton, Alexandria Lukic, Chelsea Filgate, Janaha Beeton
OUTS: Maggie Cuthbertson
LAST SEASON: Premier
COACH SAYS: We have 10 new faces added to fill holes left from an already strong premiership team from 2018. Big loss was Maggie Cuthbertson but it's great for her to better her footy in a tougher comp.
The girls have been training for this Saturday's game since mid October, so it has been a long time coming but after a few strong hit outs in practice matches against teams well above our means, we feel we have come out the other side with a really strong-minded, positive group that has ultimate success as the clear objective.
COACH: Dave Marshall
CAPTAIN: Tyeisha Hinds
INS: About 10 including Tamara Bird, Erin Baker
OUTS: Jodie Clifford, Phoebe Barnett
LAST SEASON: Fourth
COACH SAYS: The girls have had a long pre-season and they've learned a fair bit - hopefully we keep learning and with that we might be able to come away with a couple of wins.
I'm not really looking at how many wins we have but how much we improve over the season. The girls have all stepped up which is really good, they've done a bit extra and worked on their skills.
COACH: Alex Wadley
CAPTAINS: Charlotte How and Polly Bartlett
INS: More than 15 players including Charlotte How
OUTS: Nat Curbishley
LAST SEASON: Sixth
COACH SAYS: We've probably turned over half of our list from last year.
We've definitely got a lot more pace and skills this year and we've recruited a couple of players with football experience which was great.
The players that we've retained from last year have improved dramatically skills-wise and fitness-wise.
We've got Charlotte How who's had some experience playing the back end of the State League with Launceston, Karley Fulton who's new to the game crossing from basketball who's a very good midfield operator, and Gen Dalco in the ruck has set the pre-season on fire.
COACHES: Kate McLaughlin, Mathew Murfett
CAPTAIN: Emma Price
LAST SEASON: N/A
COACH SAYS: A lot of our girls haven't played football before, but we feel that we have a strong playing group that could challenge some of the experienced teams.
We've got quite a representative of girls from a high level sporting backgrounds like netball, basketball and touch football. Jen Guy (past Northern Hawks State League player) will be one to keep an eye on as she has adapted to footy seamlessly, has a great kick on her as well as good hands. Kate Minchin has watched plenty of football as she is also the trainer for the men's teams, so she understands the game well. Indi Ellingsen has really stood out in our practice matches, particularly with her pace around the ground.
COACH: Nic D'Emden
CAPTAIN: Anna Gibson
LAST SEASON: N/A
COACH SAYS: We started just before Christmas and the girls have improved out of sight, it's been very rewarding thus far. About 40 to 50 per cent of the girls have played footy before in some capacity and we've been continuing to build on our links with East Launceston Football Club.
Anna Gibson is the daughter of David Gibson who was a well-known and high-quality player at Old Scotch, so it's great to see that family tradition continue, and she'll be supported by Hannah Goss and Paige Anderson as her vice-captains.
COACH: Cabel Hall
CAPTAIN: Letitia Johnston
INS: Keeley Lester, Paige McLennan, Ruby Slater, Maggie Aitken, Georgia Knight, Ally Marshall, Bree Lethborg, Maddy Reid, Molly Cornish, Jessamy Stagoll, Coby Gore
OUTS: Hannah Viney, Talisha Woolley, Alex Hall, Kelly Davis, Gemma James, Miranda Oliver, Rebecca Nicholls, Gemma Pinner, Stacey Taylor, Robekah McDougall, Ebony Lette, Lauren Carter
LAST SEASON: Second
COACH SAYS: We've had a lot of changes - from our premiership team of two years ago we've only got seven players and we've also lost 11 players from last year's grand final team.
Finals will be the aim but we're unsure of what this group's capable of - I'm really confident they'll be very competitive.
Georgie Dare has really flourished in her second pre-season, she's looking really fit, Molly Cornish is a first-year player who's played really well in the practice matches, she looks a really dynamic type and Katherine Richardson has also shown some great form in the pre-season. We're also really looking forward to the return of one of our leaders in Keeley Lester.
COACH: Adrian Dean
CAPTAINS: Emily Perkins, Abbi Dean
INS: Jayde Brazendale
OUTS: Hannah Grima, Hayley Breward
LAST SEASON: Third
COACH SAYS: We've played three practice games and the girls are certainly getting lots of game sense experience which I was keen to introduce pretty early.
There's some really strong teams out there so it's going to be massive challenge for us to finish higher than third but our aim is to improve.
Our assistant coach is Kate Child, she captained Launceston in their last TSLW premiership so we're looking for some strong leadership from her. We've also just signed Tornadoes centre Jayde Brazendale as well so she should be a nice addition to us in terms of height and size - she'll play in the ruck and up forward.
