The two-night meeting always delivers big performances and this year’s event at Latrobe was no exception.
With 27 entries all vying for the 20 starting positions in the 50-lap final, teams did not have the opportunity to hold back on the opening night to conserve their machinery.
Darren Kane and defending champion Matt Pascoe were equal top on points table after Friday night’s proceedings.
Callum Harper struck problems with a broken camshaft with the team working through the night to get back into the race.
Saturday’s heats consolidated positions followed by the top-20 pole shuffle, a one-lap dash whereby competitors could move up grid positions.
Kane started from pole with Queenslander Sean Black occupying the front row.
The race was marred with a five-car pile up toward the back of the field in the opening lap. A complete restart ensued and Kane was immediately challenged by Black who took the lead on lap four.
Pascoe challenged Kane to grab second halfway through the race. While the battle was intense for the lead Harper was working his way up from tenth.
By lap 30, Harper was in fourth and closed in rapidly as the leaders were carving their way through the back markers.
Harper hit the lead with eight laps remaining and Black came second ahead of Pascoe and Kane.
Steve Latham had a late race battle with Mick Nicola Senior ahead of Adam Beechey.
Harper dedicated the win to his team who had worked through the night to build an engine to get him back into the race.
Luke Redpath won both nights of the wingless in convincing fashion.
Stevie Smith dominated both nights of the junior new stars while Jayden Triffett also drove well on both nights to take victory.
The street stocks were won by Dale Riley Jr on Friday while on Saturday Corey Bauld held out a tight pack of cars to win the final.
Dylan Beveridge twice drove to victory in the Formula 500s. Kristian Kelly was second both nights with Adam Garwood third on Friday and Taylor Johnson third on Saturday.
The modifieds had a thrilling final on Friday with less than half a second from first to third with Brad McKendrick taking the win ahead of Andy Russell and Trent Quilleratt.
Russell went one better winning Saturday’s race from Josh Stephens and Quilleratt.
The racing continues on Thursday night with another big super sedan show at Carrick Speedway with racing from 7pm.
