Acting Inspector John Parker said the shooting on Pinkard Street on January 11 was linked to the home invasion on Kay Street, Kings Meadows, on January 9.
Police will allege the 26-year-old Nunamara man who was shot in the leg on Pinkard Street had been mistakenly identified as being responsible for the Kay Street home invasion.
It is alleged a 23-year-old mother and her two-year-old son were doused in petrol and had their lives threatened at their Kay Street house about 7.10am.
Acting Inspector Parker would not comment on the motive for the shooting, but said police were confident both crimes were linked.
“One thing we would like to state though is that the 26-year-old Nunamara man who was shot in the incident at Pinkard Street, was in no way involved in the robbery at Kings Meadows in Kay Street,” he said.
“He is a person that has got involved in a matter, which he has had no involvement in himself, and has been shot for no apparent reason.
“I don’t wish to discuss how the matters are linked, suffice to say that the shooting that occurred in Kings Meadows was as a result of the robbery in Kay Street.”
Devonport man Luke Jacob Brazendale has been charged with aggravated armed robbery and assault, in relation to the home invasion.
The 26-year-old appeared in an out-of-hours court on Friday. He has been remanded in custody, due to reappear on Monday, January 21.
Acting Inspector Parker said police were still seeking information in relation to another alleged offender and a 1998 faded-red Toyota Corolla.
The car was last seen on Janet Street near Kay Street at the time of the alleged robbery and was seen on Southgate Drive shortly after.
